This hill station in the Western Ghats came into the limelight only in the late 19th century after the British leased some of the lands in the area. They started cultivation of crops such as coffee and cardamom before settling on tea as the ideal crop for the area. In the 1960s, the Tata Group forayed into the tea business and floated Tata tea Ltd. It was in the late 20th century that Munnar emerged as a tourism hotspot.
Kochi is a well-established commercial port having a long history rooted back to the 13th century. It has been attracting traders and travellers from as long as 600 years. Famous for giant fishnets, Portuguese houses and ancient mosques. It came into being after its separation from the Kulashekhara Empire.
Thekkady, located in the Idukki district of the state of Kerala, is the place where the Periyar National Park is located. Thekkady lies very close to Kumily, which lies on the border of Tamil Nadu and Kerala. Periyar Wildlife Sanctuary, spread across an area of 300 square miles, is home to thick evergreen forests, deciduous forests and a host of animal species, viz. elephants, sambar, tigers, Nilgiri Langurs, etc
